BIN STRIKE
As you all know and for the people that dont I'm a student at Leeds University and I am currently in my 2nd year of my 3 year degree, this year I moved in with six girls that I had been living with in halls last year. We live in an great area called Hype Park great location only 15 minute walk in to uni which is really good, we live near to all our other friends as well which is ideal. But the biggest issue we have been having is the Bin Strike, bin men and city cleaners have been on srike since the 7th of September over a dipute about pay and its just not getting sorted out. We are in our ninth week of overpouring rubbish, food dumped on the streets and it just horrible. I dont even want to know about how many rats there are living around us. The people that I feel most sorry for are the families that live on our road that have small children t which are most likely to pick some thing up. It just not good. I have spoken to my flat mates and we have agreed that if its not sorted out soon then we might have to take it up with the university to see if they can do anything to help us.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER
This was my A level examination piece. The topic was Family and I chose the relationship between a mother and her daughter. The photos where transfered on to fabric and stitched onto the piece. Also in the background which is quite hard to see I stitched lots of little hands. I also stitched this poem on which is one of my favorites and my mum actually has it written in our kitchen at home. This is one of my favorite pieces because it is really personal to me.
NATURAL
This piece is from another project, the corset I made out of leaves, newspaper and magazine which is stitched together by machine.

TEXTILES PIECE 2
This is another textiles piece that I made. I really like the effect of painting a piece and that machine stitching on top of it. It really creates more of a dramatic effect. I also like how it becomes more detailed.
DISTORTION
Alice Kettle is one of my favorite textile designers her work is extremely detailed. I love how she uses machine stitching like paint and how it creates lots of texture in her pieces. They really stand out. I was really inspired by her in my textile pieces that I made this piece. This is called Distortion.

FUR

These are my dresses that were influenced by Hamish Morrow. My topic for my dresses was a campaign against fur in the Fashion Industry. I created these two pieces to stop cruelity to animals that are farmed for their skin. It was a very emotional subject as i got to find out alot about that industry, which i didn't know very much of before.
HAMISH MORROW

Hamish Morrow is one of my favorite Designers. For one of my projects at A level I was influenced by his spring / summer collection 2002 when he created garnments that were made out of cotton and linen in white fabric. He then covered the top of the catwalk in purple dye to which when the models went down the runway they dyed the bottom of his pieces purple. I also really like how artistic this is as the dye on the runway created an art piece.
